It is becoming increasingly evident that the prevailing societal paradigms, deeply rooted in an industrial-era mindset, systematically contribute to human suffering and environmental degradation. These frameworks, perhaps unintentionally, cultivate a phenomenon of marginalization and often, criminalization, in a manner disturbingly analogous to how they diminish the inherent dignity of individuals.
This perspective suggests that many undesirable situations are not merely unfortunate occurrences, but rather manufactured outcomes. A narrative is often perpetuated wherein those experiencing hardship are subtly, or overtly, made to feel responsible for their predicament, as if they somehow “deserved” their fate. My hypothesis is that these scenarios are intentionally or inadvertently crafted for the perpetuation and benefit of the existing industrial model. This mechanism artfully delineates paths to success for a select few, while simultaneously consigning others to a trajectory of perceived failure.
Consider the immense leverage that employment—or its absence—wields over individual lives. It serves as a potent instrument of control. When individuals are labeled as “undesirable” or “unemployable” by the current system, it creates a stark contrast that ultimately benefits those who are “included” and employed within this very structure. This fosters an ethos of relentless competition, which inherently marginalizes and alienates those who do not conform to its hyper-competitive demands. Our society, in its pursuit of an often-unattainable ideal, uses the concept of perfectionism to systematically weed out those deemed imperfect. This absolutist stance often dictates that any mistake, however minor, can lead to exclusion or severe societal penalties, rather than offering opportunities for growth and redemption. Thus, perfectionism and absolutism, as products of this entrenched mindset, generate marginalization as their inevitable and tragic “pollution.”
It is imperative that we pivot towards a paradigm of holistic inclusion, genuine acceptance, and universally accessible inspirational incentives for everyone on Earth, not solely for the seemingly perfect. In fact, upon closer examination, we observe leaders who, operating under the dangerous illusion of their own infallibility, employ absolutist judgments rather than empathetic relativism against anyone who questions or does not unequivocally support them.
I am deeply concerned that these prevailing concepts are not only undermining human flourishing but are actively imperiling our planet. The more we adhere to these divisive frameworks, the more we fuel escalating conflicts, pervasive violence, social instability, endemic homelessness, and the systematic creation of what we label as “criminals”—individuals often left to contend with the most basic conditions of survival. A pervasive feedback loop ensures the perpetuation of these conditions, implicating various societal institutions: the employment sector, healthcare systems, the criminal justice apparatus, law enforcement, and mental health services. These systems, inadvertently or otherwise, become enforcers and responders to the very societal fractures they help create.
The tragic outcome is a diversion of vast human and material resources towards managing and containing “impacted individuals”—people who, under this framework, are reduced to mere “widgets” or “rejected objects” of a production line. Are we creating an economy that manages people who are detrimentally impacted?
We stand at a critical juncture, faced with a fundamental choice: to continue sustaining an economy predicated on the existence of a marginalized and detrimentally impacted, or to transition towards an inclusive, holistically motivated, and universally positive societal framework for all people. It is time we begin this transition. The immense talent and dedication currently channeled into addressing the symptoms of this systemic dysfunction—by medical professionals, counselors, social workers, and countless others—must be strategically re-directed. Imagine harnessing their holistic energies not merely to treat the “impacted,” but to proactively facilitate a comprehensive transition for all individuals towards a more flourishing and desired future for everyone, everywhere. Our collective endeavor must be to uplift every individual, fostering environments where all can genuinely flourish and contribute their unique potential. Consider the profound moral and spiritual dividends—the sheer “heart energy”—that would ripple through society, knowing our contributions are not just mitigating suffering, but actively building a world where every life is valued and given the opportunity to thrive.
